Cabinet Not Cooling — General Investigation

The cabinet temperature is too high. This flow starts with non-invasive checks for airflow, door seal, and compressor state before any electrical measurements.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

  • Compressor runs but condenser stays cold: Escalate — possible sealed-system fault. Requires manufacturer-or-licensed technician for refrigerant or sealed-system repair.
  • Compressor extremely hot or making metallic knocking sound: Unplug immediately. Do not restart. Escalate to qualified technician.

Checklist

Guided Diagnostic Steps

Work from low-risk checks toward technician-level inspection only when evidence supports it.

  1. 1

    Check door seal

    operator-intermediatelow

Close the door on a sheet of paper at several points around the perimeter. The paper should be firmly gripped. Repeat at top, bottom, left side, right side, and corners.

Expected: Paper is gripped firmly at all test points with no slips.

  2. 2

    Check condenser coil cleanliness

    operator-intermediatelow

Using a flashlight, examine the condenser coil fins at the lower back or base of the machine. Look for accumulated dust, lint, or debris that blocks airflow through the fins.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

    Flashlight or Work Light

Expected: Fins are clean with open air passages visible.

  3. 3

Listen and feel for compressor activity

    operator-intermediatehigh

With the machine powered on and door closed, listen near the base for compressor hum. Carefully feel the compressor housing — it should be warm if running, not cold. Listen for condenser fan and evaporator fan noise.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

    Stop conditions
    • Compressor is extremely hot to touch or making loud metallic knocking — unplug and stop

Expected: Compressor is warm and vibrating slightly; condenser fan and evaporator fan are audible.

Where to find this

Use this as orientation before touching the machine. It is location help, not a repair instruction.

Refrigeration System

Start at the customer delivery bin and product drop path; clear visible product and debris before moving to internal checks.

  • Maintains cabinet interior temperature in the safe range for cold beverages or snacks.
  • Compressor
  • Condenser coil and condenser fan
  • Evaporator coil and evaporator fan

Do not open sealed-system or compressor areas unless a qualified refrigeration technician is handling the work.
