Machine Completely Dead - No Power

Guided diagnostic for a FoodKing unit that shows no signs of electrical activity. Begins with outlet verification and proceeds to internal power path.

High VoltageOperator5-10 min
Power4 stepsoperator-intermediate

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

  • Burning smell at any point during diagnosis
  • Repeated fuse failure without obvious cause
  • Live electrical hazard identified

Checklist

Guided Diagnostic Steps

Work from low-risk checks toward technician-level inspection only when evidence supports it.

  1. 1

    Verify Wall Outlet Power

    operator-intermediatelow

Use a known-good lamp or outlet tester at the wall outlet serving the machine. Confirm the outlet provides expected voltage. If the outlet fails, the issue is facility electrical, not the machine.

    Outlet Tester

Expected: Outlet tester indicates correct wiring and voltage present.

    Evidence to note: meter-reading

  2. 2

    Inspect Power Cord Condition

    operator-intermediatelow

Unplug the machine. Visually inspect the full length of the power cord for cuts, kinks, melted sections, or exposed conductors. Feel along the cord for soft spots.

    Flashlight or Work Light
    Stop conditions
    • Exposed conductors visible
    • Cord is hot while machine is unplugged (indicates backfeed - stop immediately)

Expected: Power cord is intact with no visible damage.

    Evidence to note: photo

  3. 3

Check Internal Fuse or Circuit Breaker

    technician-advancedlive-voltage

With the machine unplugged, access the internal power entry area. Locate the main fuse or circuit breaker. Visually inspect the fuse element or check breaker position. If a multimeter is available and you are trained, check fuse continuity with the meter. Do not probe live circuits.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

    Digital MultimeterFlashlight or Work Light
    Stop conditions
    • Burning smell near fuse area
    • Discolored or melted fuse holder

Expected: Fuse element is intact with continuity, or breaker is in the ON position.

    Evidence to note: meter-reading

  4. 4

    Verify Low-Voltage Power Supply Output

    technician-advancedlive-voltage

With machine unplugged, locate the low-voltage power supply section near the controller. Visually inspect for bulging or leaking capacitors, burnt components, or discolored board areas. If trained and equipped, plug in the machine and carefully measure the low-voltage output. Stop if any burning smell is detected.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

    Digital Multimeter
    Stop conditions
    • Burning smell detected
    • Visible arcing or sparking
    • Wet areas near electrical components

    Evidence to note: meter-reading
