Vend Motor Does Not Activate

Isolates whether the failure is in the motor, motor harness, controller output, or the command chain from selection input to motor activation

High VoltageOperator5-10 min
Vend path4 stepsoperator-intermediate

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

  • Multiple motors failed simultaneously: Do not replace motors individually. Investigate common power supply, main harness, or controller failure first.
  • Motor or harness shows signs of overheating: Disconnect machine. Do not apply power until cause of overcurrent identified.

Guided Diagnostic Steps

Work from low-risk checks toward technician-level inspection only when evidence supports it.

  1. 1

Check for Product Jam or Obstruction

    operator-intermediatelow

Open the machine and inspect the affected tray. Look for products that are stuck, misaligned, fallen behind the tray, or jammed in the dispensing mechanism. Remove any obstructions.

Expected: Tray and dispensing path clear of obstructions

    Evidence to note: photo

  2. 2

    Verify Motor Harness Connection

    operator-intermediatehigh

Unplug machine. Locate the connector where the motor harness attaches to the motor. Verify it is fully seated with no bent pins. Gently tug the harness to confirm it is secure. Trace the harness to the controller end and verify that connection as well.

    Stop conditions
    • Connector pins bent or corroded — do not force connection

Expected: Both ends of the motor harness are securely connected with no visible damage

    Evidence to note: photo

  3. 3

    Test Motor Command Signal

    operator-intermediatehigh

With the machine plugged in, initiate a test vend for the affected selection while measuring voltage at the motor connector. If the machine has a service mode, use it for motor testing. Keep hands clear of moving parts during test.

Expected: Voltage appears at motor connector during vend command

    Evidence to note: meter-reading

  4. 4

    Trace Signal Loss Backward

    operator-intermediatehigh

Since no voltage reached the motor, the fault is upstream. Check the harness for continuity between controller output pin and motor connector. Also verify the controller is receiving the selection input correctly (check display response when button pressed).

Expected: Identify whether harness has break or controller is not sending signal

    Evidence to note: meter-reading
