Unit Completely Dead - No Power Symptoms

Systematic check from wall outlet through power cord, main fuse, and into the controller power supply to identify where power is lost.

High VoltageOperator5-10 min
Power5 stepsoperator-intermediate

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

  • Burning smell detected at any point: Immediately disconnect power. Do not attempt further diagnosis. Escalate to qualified technician.
  • Main fuse blows repeatedly after replacement: Stop replacing fuses. A short circuit is present. Escalate to qualified technician.
  • Visible damage to controller board such as burn marks or swollen components: Do not attempt board-level repair. Replace board only after all upstream checks pass.

Guided Diagnostic Steps

Work from low-risk checks toward technician-level inspection only when evidence supports it.

  1. 1

    Verify Wall Outlet Has Power

    operator-intermediatelow

Plug a known-good lamp or outlet tester into the same wall outlet the vendor uses. Confirm the outlet is energized.

    Outlet Tester or Known-Good Lamp

Expected: The lamp illuminates or the outlet tester shows correct wiring.

  2. 2

    Inspect Power Cord for Damage

    operator-intermediatelow

Unplug the machine. Visually inspect the full length of the power cord for cuts, kinks, burn marks, or exposed conductors. Check the plug for bent or damaged prongs.

    Stop conditions
    • If cord is damaged and conductors are exposed - do not plug back in until cord is replaced

Expected: Power cord is continuous, flexible, with no visible damage.

  3. 3

    Check Main Fuse

    operator-intermediatehigh

With the unit unplugged, locate the main fuse holder. Remove the fuse and test continuity with a multimeter. If fuse is open, do not replace it yet - investigate for short circuits before installing a new fuse.

    Stop conditions
    • If fuse is physically cracked or shows heat discoloration - possible severe short, hand off

Expected: Fuse shows continuity. If open, root cause of failure must be identified.

    Evidence to note: meter-reading

  4. 4

Investigate Short Circuit Before Replacing Fuse

    operator-intermediatehigh

With fuse removed and unit unplugged, visually inspect the harness, controller board, and major components for signs of short circuit such as burnt insulation, corrosion, or debris. Do not install a new fuse until the cause is resolved.

    Digital MultimeterFlashlight or Work Light
    Stop conditions
    • If burning smell is detected - disconnect and hand off

Expected: Visible short-circuit cause is identified and corrected, or no short is found.

  5. 5

    Check Controller Power Supply Area

    operator-intermediatehigh

With the unit unplugged, visually inspect the controller board area for signs of damage, burnt components, or bulging capacitors. If all upstream checks passed and the board appears undamaged, the issue may be internal to the controller power supply section.

    Flashlight or Work Light
    Stop conditions
    • If board shows burn marks or swollen capacitors - do not apply power, hand off

Expected: Controller board appears clean with no visible damage.
