Vend Motor and Delivery Diagnostic

Systematic verification of vend operation from selection input through motor activation and delivery confirmation. Identifies whether the issue is mechanical, electrical, or sensor-related.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

  • Motor harness shows thermal damage: Do not re-energize. Investigate cause before repair.
  • Multiple motors fail simultaneously: Likely a common cause — power supply or controller issue. Escalate before replacing individual motors.

  1. 1

Verify Product Loading and Tray Alignment

    operator-intermediateunskilled

With power disconnected and door open, visually check that products in the affected column are properly seated, not jammed, and that the tray or spiral is correctly positioned and not damaged.

Expected: Products are correctly loaded, spiral turns freely by hand (with power off), and no jams are visible.

  2. 2

    Test Vend From Multiple Selections

    operator-intermediatehigh

Restore power. Attempt test vends from at least three different selections including the affected one. Listen carefully and note which selections work and which fail, and whether motor sounds are heard.

    Stop conditions
    • Motor makes grinding or scraping noise — stop and disconnect power.

Expected: At least one selection successfully dispenses product. Motor sounds are heard for all active selections.

  3. 3

Inspect Motor Harness at Affected Column

    operator-intermediatehigh

Disconnect power. Locate the harness connector for the affected column's motor. Visually check that the connector is fully seated, pins are not bent or corroded, and wires are not damaged.

    Stop conditions
    • Wires are burned or melted — do not reconnect. Hand off to qualified technician.

Expected: Harness connector is firmly attached, pins are clean and straight, wires show no damage.

  4. 4

    Attempt Manual Motor Rotation Check

    operator-intermediatehigh

With power still disconnected, try gently rotating the motor shaft or spiral by hand for the affected column. Note whether it moves freely, has resistance spots, or is completely frozen.

    Stop conditions
    • If shaft will not move at all, do not force it — the motor or gearbox may be mechanically failed.

Expected: Motor shaft and spiral rotate smoothly with consistent, light resistance throughout the rotation.
