Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

  • Refrigerant oil visible near compressor or joints: Stop. Mark area. Do not attempt sealed-system repair. Escalate to licensed refrigeration technician.
  • Compressor extremely hot with burning smell: Unplug immediately. Do not re-energize. Tag out.

Checklist

Guided Diagnostic Steps

Work from low-risk checks toward technician-level inspection only when evidence supports it.

  1. 1

Confirm Condenser Coil Cleanliness and Airflow

    operator-intermediatelow

With machine unplugged, visually inspect the condenser coil at the lower rear or bottom of the machine. If heavily coated in dust or lint, clean with a soft brush or vacuum.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

    Flashlight or Work Light
    Stop conditions
    • If condenser fan blade is damaged or obstructed, address before running compressor.

Expected: Condenser coil is clean enough to see individual fins clearly.

  2. 2

    Check Compressor Power Presence

    technician-advancedlive-voltage

Unplug machine. Access compressor area. Identify the compressor electrical connection. With machine plugged in and calling for cooling, measure voltage at the compressor power input. Unplug after measurement.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

    Digital Multimeter
    Stop conditions
    • If wires to compressor are brittle, cracked, or heat-damaged, do not power on — replace wiring first.

Expected: Nameplate voltage present at compressor terminals when controller is calling for cooling.

    Evidence to note: meter-reading

  3. 3

    Test Compressor Starting Relay

    operator-intermediatehigh

Unplug machine. Remove the starting relay from the compressor. Shake gently — if it rattles significantly, the relay may be failed. Test relay continuity per generic relay testing method.

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

    Digital Multimeter
    Stop conditions
    • Relay physically cracked or burned — replace before further compressor testing.

Expected: Relay should show expected continuity pattern. Significant rattling indicates likely failure.

    Evidence to note: meter-reading

Location Help

Where to find this

Use this as orientation before touching the machine. It is location help, not a repair instruction.

Refrigeration System

Start at the customer delivery bin and product drop path; clear visible product and debris before moving to internal checks.

  • Maintains internal cabinet temperature within safe range for perishable product storage.
  • Compressor assembly
  • Condenser coil
  • Evaporator coil

Do not open sealed-system or compressor areas unless a qualified refrigeration technician is handling the work.
