Single Column Vend Failure

Diagnose why one specific column fails to dispense while other columns work normally

High VoltageOperator5-10 min
Vend path3 stepsoperator-intermediate

Qualified technician handoff: stop before live electrical testing, sealed-system refrigeration work, compressor service, or protected-compartment access unless a qualified technician is handling the work.

  • Motor hums but does not rotate: Stalled motor — check for mechanical bind first, then condemn motor if helix is free.
  • No command voltage at harness with other columns working: Controller output for that column may be failed — verify with harness swap test if possible.

Checklist

Guided Diagnostic Steps

Work from low-risk checks toward technician-level inspection only when evidence supports it.

  1. 1

Clear product and test for mechanical jam

    operator-intermediatelow

Remove all product from the affected column. Manually rotate the helix by hand with the power off to feel for binding or obstruction.

    Stop conditions
    • tray-bent-or-broken

Expected: Helix rotates smoothly by hand without catching

    Evidence to note: note

  2. 2

Test vend from service mode for that column

    operator-intermediatehigh

Enter service mode and initiate a test vend for the affected column. Observe whether the motor attempts to turn.

Expected: Motor rotates helix through a complete cycle

    Evidence to note: photo

  3. 3

Check motor harness and command signal

    operator-intermediatehigh

Power off. Disconnect the motor harness for the affected column. Inspect pins. If qualified, reconnect and test vend while checking for voltage at the motor connector.

    Stop conditions
    • harness-wiring-damaged-or-burned

Expected: Motor connector receives drive voltage during vend command

    Evidence to note: meter-reading
